A family home, rebuilt after a hurricane.

I'd stayed at 321 more than once before the hosts asked me to build their site, so I understood what they meant when they said it isn't a hotel. It's their home, and guests stay in it.

The property was rebuilt after Hurricane Iota destroyed much of the island in 2020, and each room represents something different. Guests rate it 9.8, but almost none of that came through online. The site had to tell that story, and show the nature around it, so people would want to spend time there.

The Approach

Build anticipation, then show the island.

The name is a countdown, so the site became one.

  1. The countdown as a motif

3, 2, 1 builds as you scroll, and the page pays it off at the end with "your surprise is waiting". Handled this way, the name reads as a promise.

  2. The island up front

The hero is a background video that combines drone and camera footage, so the first thing visitors see is the hotel and how it feels to be there. A modern serif keeps the tone warm and a little refined.

  3. The story only they have

Custom sections cover the fruit garden guests can explore and the journey to the island, the details that make 321 a place with a story.

The Result

Live in four days.

321 was the first Launchpad build. Launchpad is how I build small-business sites: I set the design direction, and AI tooling speeds up the build. 321 went from brief to live in four days, and the site scores 98 on PageSpeed.
